Matthew Shreve

(b. 1984, he/they)

is a Seattle-based composer (currently living in New York City) whose music has been performed by ensembles and soloists across the United States. Their composition “A Lover” has been published by North Star Music, LLC. Their works have been featured in performances by Contemporaneous Ensemble, BlackBox Ensemble, The Rhythm Method, Fresh Squeezed Opera, Opus 7 Choral Ensemble, Tucson Symphony, and Tucson Repertory Orchestra.

Shreve received a Master of Music in concert composition at New York University's Steinhardt School, studying with Julia Wolfe, Shelley Washington, and Justin Dello Joio. They hold a Bachelor of Music in Composition, under the mentorship of Jiyoun Chung, with minors in Non-Profit Organizational Management and German Studies from Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington.

Shreve's compositions are characterized by their lyrical, intimate, and expressive qualities. A core tenet of their artistic philosophy is a commitment to inclusivity and diverse representation within the arts. This commitment motivates them to create works that shed light on the multifaceted nature of queer identities and experiences.
