World Premiere:

performed by Contemporaneous Ensemble
The Kingfisher is a tone poem that follows kingfishers as they hunt and socialize at a body of water. A transcribed kingfisher bird call that opens the work gradually evolves into the main melodic lines. This work is part of a larger collection that explores kingfisher birds and the Greek myth of Alcyone.
